Just a reminder on the details of our commuity service project. Feel free to share this with your friends, co-workers, neighbors, etc. Each year K.I.S.S. Crop-n-Shop Scrapbook Events chooses a community service project to work with. This year I have chosen Alexandra's House. Alexandra's House is a home that works with families carrying terminally ill children based in Kansas City, Missouri. Many of these families face the possibility of not getting to see their child celebrate their living birth let alone their first birthday. These families however do have something to celebrate in that they were given the time, ability and gift of carrying their child, watching them grow in the womb and experience the love of life. We are going to help these families capture and save these very memories!!! You can read all about Alexandra's House at http://www.alexandrashouse.com. Please take a few moments to read through all the information on the site. I will tell you, Kleenex should be close as many families have shared stories from the heart and they will tug at your hearts!! We will be working with Alexandra's House to collect completed 6 x 6 or 8 x 8 pages that will be given to families assisted by Alexandra's House. After talking with staff of Alexandra's house it is clear this is a true healing process for these parents, to be able to capture memories such as ultrasounds, growing tummies, siblings, birth certificates, photos of baby at delivery and sadly in many cases death certificates. Journaling areas and even hidden journaling areas, such as tags behind photo mats, fold out mats, etc. will allow the parents to tell their stories without all thoughts being viewed. Journaling has been stressed as being important to these families. They've gone through and will face many emotions and thoughts. Journaling gives them a venue to share and express these emotions. We've chosen the smaller size albums so that the families will have a separate album they can display when they feel ready and comfortable or tuck away on difficult days yet still have the memories with them. We will collect pages during the K.I.S.S. Crop-n-Shop Scrapbook event on November 9th and 10th, 2007. If you are unable to attend but would like to donate you may mail pages to: KISS Crop-n-Shop Scrapbook Events 18954 Gum Rd Granby, MO 64844 Packages will need to arrive prior to November 5th for presentation to Alexandria's House on November 10th!! Among pages we will also be collecting adhesives, 6 x 6 or 8 x 8 albums, page protectors, papers and embellishments. Many of the families meet at Alexandra's house to scrapbook monthly and supplies are welcomed. We will be having a contest again this year, not that you need incentive other than helping this awesome organization BUT we love to give out prizes!!! The person that turns in the most completed pages will win a super, awesome, fantastic prize and there's more!! We are going to have a 2nd and 3rd place this year!! To qualify as a completed page we simply ask that you create a page that you would want to use in your books, it must have at least one photo mat, some embellishment and/or spot for journaling and is handmade. Premade, assembled pages will not count for contest purposes. Please remember our goal is to provide these families with a lasting memory book. Donations of items other than completed pages will not count towards totals for prizes however your name will be entered into our door prize bucket for additional prizes. Last year we collected over 1600 pages for our Community Service Project. Our goal this year is 2000!! Can we count on you for help? **Unfortunately the contest is only valid to those that attend the K.I.S.S. Crop-n-Shop Scrapbook Event in Carthage, MO on November 9th and 10th. Those that mail in pages will be entered into a separate drawing for several door prizes to be mailed shortly after the presentation to Alexandra's House. ***K.I.S.S. reserves the right to determine if a page is considered a complete page for purpose of the contest. Finally got it scanned in so thought I'd share with ya one of the classes I taught at Scrapology in St. Louis. It was a fun class but let me tell you, I'd never have been able to get all those circles cut without the help of my son, hubby and my mom!! My sister from Kansas City even helped with this kit!! Tyler got pretty good at running the cutter and even Greg jumped in and ran it for several hours!! There were a total of 35 circles or half circles cut per book!! YIKES!! That doesn't include all the photo mats, 21 in all or all the yards of ribbon and embellishments! I created this as a year-in-review type album with a page for each month and space for a photo or two from each month. Greg's thinking I need to make one for his mom for Christmas, wonder if he realizes that means we'll have to cut more circles, LOL!!!

Have to get the other page ready for class tomorrow afternoon and get some sleep tonight!! Hope everyone had a great weekend! Don't forget, I'll be posting details on the Scrap Pink crop as well as the November event tomorrow evening, probably late! Has anyone noticed there are only 90 days left until the November event? It's coming up FAST!!!
Just a thought to ponder and I don't mean to sound harsh but why oh why can't people come up with their own ideas? It drives me NUTS to plan an event, design a class, etc only to find another company doing the exact same thing, teaching my original layout, etc. I know scraplifiting is popular and okay in this industry but some companies/people take it to far!! We all find an idea we like and tweak it but my goodness put your own twist on it, don't copy everything. I'd be happy to consult with them, help them plan their own ideas or events but do your own thing!! It's a ton of work to organize, plan, create, design and it is so frustrating when you do all the work and someone takes it as their own without any credit back to the originator. I always try to put a happy twist on things so I guess the happy twist would be I must be doing something right if they find it good enough to copy!! LOL!!! One more thing, they can copy all they want but they won't have the K.I.S.S. factor and therefore.....well..... you know!!! Thanks for letting me vent and remember be original!!!
Okay girls, I've been playing around with this idea for some time. Diane of Scrapbook Tour and Michelle Oliver (hi girls!!) have something similar to this and I just love the idea!! By the way, she hosts some of the best events in the St. Louis area! I have many local people requesting my classes, I love to teach, I love to crop and soooo here's the idea! I'm thinking of a scrap school of sorts. Meetings held once a month, probably on Saturdays but would love to hear what you think on that. Meetings would consist of crop time, 10am - 10 pm. Optional, two classes. Crop fees would be in the $12 - $15.00 range and classes would be in the $10.00 - $12.00 range. You would be able to register month by month so no long term commitment. On-site K.I.S.S. store to shop from. School would run from November - March. You'd have up to 15 days prior to crop to enroll. We could do potluck or bring your own. So what do you think? Give me the good, bad and ugly, LOL!!
I know, I know!! You are killing me with emails and calls on this one. Information will be posted by Sunday, August 12th. The hold up has been the facility. I had booked our favorite little spot but they have a ladies retreat the same weekend and I got bumped. No biggie, I just need to find the right spot for our little event. I've looked at churches, fairgrounds, community centers, etc. and they either won't let us stay very late (Sunday church services) or they are dingy and dark or not large enough for all our stuff soooooo I'm looking at two locations, one in Joplin and one in Neosho. I'll know tomorrow for sure, the good news is this.....we get to crop on FRIDAY and SATURDAY and for a great cause!!! Be watching your email boxes, mark the dates and get ready to crop!! Did I mention the price is going to blow your socks off?????????
Hey ladies, registration is still open for the August 25th bus trip to Creating Keepsakes, Tulsa. We've got lots of fun things planned, some really cool surprises and some great chances to win!! Remember if you take one of the two classes that I'll be teaching for Lickety Split Scrapbooks you'll be entered into a drawing for a FREE board book kit!! This drawing is ONLY for the K.I.S.S. Bus trip attendees! Just announced: Paper Kandi Company is offering an extra door prize ticket for any K.I.S.S. Bus attendee that takes one of their two classes. They will be doing some awesome door prizes in their classes and you'll have double the chances to win!! YEAH!!! They teach awesome classes so check them out now at http://www.ckscrapbookevents.com/ok2007/. You'll be able to buy class tickets once we get to the show. Get busy, call your friends and let's go to Tulsa!!!
Faith with Everlasting Keepsakes will be teaching brand new classes for us at the K.I.S.S. Crop-n-Shop Event in November. I was able to visit with Faith and her mom over the weekend, they are just soooo sweet!! Faith also said they would be sending new product for all you happy shoppers!! Just got a call from Darby and Tammy from Paper Kandi Company (formerly Paper Princess) and they too will be designing new classes for the upcoming event. We've got a great line-up of classes, I know you will be sure to find several you like!
Those that attended our crop last year know that we chose Alexandra's House as our charity project for this year. For our newbies, let me explain what we do. Each year we choose a group that may be in need of our scrapbook talents. Last year we sent over 1600 completed pages, over 60 albums, numerous papers, glues and page protectors to families that had lost their photos and albums in the Hurrican Katrina disaster. It felt so great to get those folks back on track to keeping and making new memories!! We also gave away a Pazzles Mini Cutter to the person that created the most pages. Miranda Douglas won but was being chased by many others for the prize!! A HUGE thank you to Pazzles for the donation, we are looking forward to working with them again this year...oops did I just spill the beans? LOL!! This year, as I mentioned we chose Alexandra's house. You can read all about them here, http://www.alexandrashouse.com. After talking with staff of Alexandra's house it is clear this is a true healing process for these parents, to be able to capture memories such as ultrasounds, growing tummies, siblings, birth certificates and sadly in many cases death certificates and photos of baby at delivery. Journaling areas and even hidden journaling areas, such as tags behind photo mats, fold out mats, etc. will allow the parents to tell their stories without all thoughts being viewed by all. We will collect pages during the K.I.S.S. Crop-n-Shop Scrapbook event on November 9 th and 10 th. If you are unable to attend but would like to donate you may mail pages to KISS Scrapbooks, email me for the address at info@kisscropnshop.com. Among pages we will also be collecting adhesives, 6 x 6 or 8 x 8 albums, page protectors, papers and embellishments. Many of the moms meet at Alexandra's house to scrapbook monthly and supplies are welcomed. We will be having a contest again this year, not that you need incentive other than helping this awesome organization BUT we love to give out prizes!!! The person that turns in the most completed pages will win a super, awesome, fantastic prize and there's more!! We are going to have a 2 nd and 3rd place this year!! Donations of items other than completed pages will not count towards totals for prizes however your name will be entered into our door prize bucket for additional prizes. Let's get busy ladies, I would love to see us donate 2000 pages to Alexandra's house! I know you can do it!!
Thanks ladies for a very fun weekend, loved having you in class and really enjoyed seeing many familiar faces and chatting with friends. We made many new friends this weekend and look forward to seeing you again in October!! A side note, the Smile, Family Ties and Love You 2 to the Moon classes will be repeated at convention in October. I'll also be adding 5 new classes to the line up, I'll post them here when I decide what to do for ya.
I had to go to Arkansas this past week on business and stopped by Signed, Sealed and Delivered in Bentonville. Can you say WOW!!! Tons of new product, awesome selection, beautiful store and awesome crop space!! I've cropped there with a friend (hi Debbie) and I know several of you are faithful customers of SSD. They truly know how to run a successful store. They don't let product sit on the shelves, they move it in and out quickly. It's amazing, some of the items they had on clearance hasn't even made it to some store shelves yet!! Now that's staying on top of the market and good business sense. If you ever get a chance to take a road trip, head to Bentonville. It's worth the drive!! (No, I didn't get compensated for saying this, LOL!!) While we are talking great shopping, if you are looking to do some online shopping check out http:// www.scrap-mart.com. They have an amazing selection of Scenic Route, Cosmo Cricket, Daisy D's and Cherry Art. They also are the queen and king of QuicKutz. No paid endorsement here either, just passin' along some great shopping for ya!!
I had an interesting phone call today, thanks M! She had an idea that perhaps a photo printer station that you would be able to do enlargements, copies, etc would be useful at the crops. What do you ladies think? Would there be a need? Would you use this service if provided? I love the idea and have looked at the machines in the past, they are fairly expensive so I would need to make sure there was a need first. Thanks for the idea, I LOVE to hear ideas and thoughts on how to improve the crops!! Feel free to call me or email me anytime! (M, you are in my thoughts and prayers!!!)
While gone over the weekend, Creations Unlimited in Springfield closed its doors. This makes me so sad!! What do you think is the cause of so many scrapbook stores shutting their doors? Not enough product or new product, prices, customer service, etc? I'd love to have some discussions on this. Do you shop the local scrapbook stores, on-line stores or the big box chains? Those of us in the industry have seen and foresee some big changes in the near future and I'd love to see what the customer perceives. By the way, we still have some local scrapbook stores in our area! Be sure to stop in one today and say thank you, never know when they too will have to close doors if not supported.
