Each year K.I.S.S. Crop-n-Shop Scrapbook Events chooses a community service project to work with. This year I have chosen Alexandra's House. Alexandra's House is a home that works with families carrying terminally ill children based in Kansas City, Missouri. Many of these families face the possibility of not getting to see their child celebrate their living birth let alone their first birthday. These families however do have something to celebrate in that they were given the time, ability and gift of carrying their child, watching them grow in the womb and experience the love of life. We are going to help these families capture and save these very memories!!! You can read all about Alexandra's House at http://www.alexandrashouse.com. Please take a few moments to read through all the information on the site. I will tell you, Kleenex should be close as many families have shared stories from the heart and they will tug at your hearts!!
We will be working with Alexandra's House to collect completed 6 x 6 or 8 x 8 pages that will be given to families assisted by Alexandra's House. After talking with staff of Alexandra's house it is clear this is a true healing process for these parents, to be able to capture memories such as ultrasounds, growing tummies, siblings, birth certificates, photos of baby at delivery and sadly in many cases death certificates. Journaling areas and even hidden journaling areas, such as tags behind photo mats, fold out mats, etc. will allow the parents to tell their stories without all thoughts being viewed. Journaling has been stressed as being important to these families. They've gone through and will face many emotions and thoughts. Journaling gives them a venue to share and express these emotions. We've chosen the smaller size albums so that the families will have a separate album they can display when they feel ready and comfortable or tuck away on difficult days yet still have the memories with them.
We will collect pages during the K.I.S.S. Crop-n-Shop Scrapbook event on November 9th and 10th, 2007. If you are unable to attend but would like to donate you may mail pages to:
KISS Crop-n-Shop Scrapbook Events
18954 Gum Rd
Granby, MO 64844
Packages will need to arrive prior to November 5th for presentation to Alexandria's House on November 10th!! Among pages we will also be collecting adhesives, 6 x 6 or 8 x 8 albums, page protectors, papers and embellishments. Many of the families meet at Alexandra's house to scrapbook monthly and supplies are welcomed.
We will be having a contest again this year, not that you need incentive other than helping this awesome organization BUT we love to give out prizes!!! The person that turns in the most completed pages will win a super, awesome, fantastic prize and there's more!! We are going to have a 2nd and 3rd place this year!! To qualify as a completed page we simply ask that you create a page that you would want to use in your books, it must have at least one photo mat, some embellishment and/or spot for journaling and is handmade. Premade, assembled pages will not count for contest purposes. Please remember our goal is to provide these families with a lasting memory book.
Donations of items other than completed pages will not count towards totals for prizes however your name will be entered into our door prize bucket for additional prizes.
Last year we collected over 1600 pages for our Community Service Project. Our goal this year is 2000!! Can we count on you for help?
**Unfortunately the contest is only valid to those that attend the K.I.S.S. Crop-n-Shop Scrapbook Event in Carthage, MO on November 9th and 10th. Those that mail in pages will be entered into a separate drawing for several door prizes to be mailed shortly after the presentation to Alexandra's House.
***K.I.S.S. reserves the right to determine if a page is considered a complete page for purpose of the contest. For more information: http://www.kisscropnshop.com or call Shannon at 417-540-5072.

Shannon what is a Premade, assembled page .that does not count for the contest part of the community service project ?
Great question!! A premade or pre-assembled page is one that you buy and have to do nothing to it but add pictures. There are several kits on the market like that and while they would be GREAT for the cause they won't count towards the contest. The contest is meant for those that spend time creating pages with love for the cause. Does that make sense? Any other questions? Feel free to ask!!
This is an amazing Event!! I want to include it on my blog at www.busybbbs.blogspot.com Thanks for all you do. I want the word to get out on this!!!
Sheepish- That would be great, please feel free to spread the word!!
