Only four more days.....

Wow, is it just me or is Christmas coming faster this year than years past? I can't believe it's only four days until Christmas, hope you all are ready!!

So tonight let's talk food!! What's your favorite food of the holidays? Do you make your own cookies or candies? Do you prepare a large meal or special dish? Wanna share a recipe for all of us?

My favorite candy of all time is peanut clusters, love them!! I'm not much of a baker but I sure do like to eat all those yummy candies and cookies that are made this time of year much to the demise of my jeans. Hubby is going to make his potato soup for dinner at his parents. That's about all the food we have to prepare this year. No big meals so guess I'll have some extra room for the junk food!!!

Post by 7:00pm tomorrow and you'll be entered into the drawing. Our lucky winner from yesterday, Liz! Congrats and I'm sure you're going to love your rub-ons that will be arriving after Christmas!!

**Terri, I can't believe you are that close to me after all these years!! We'll have to get together soon!!

Food...what a great topic! My family usually had the traditional meal. Turkey, ham, dressing, potatoes and gravy, etc. As a kid and even as an adult, my family would spend Christmas Eve dinner with my dad's family and have the very traditional dinner and exchange gifts. On Christmas day, we would go to my mom's parents and have dinner and exchange gifts. Grandma knew that we would be tired of turkey after the traditional Thanksgiving dinners the month before, then the Christmas dinner the day before, so she would make something unexpected for us. My favorite was the year we had fondue. There was meat to fry in a fondue and even a cheese fondue on the table. Her dad, My Great Gramps could not believe there was raw meat on the table and it took some coaxing to get him to eat with us!

My favorite food to make at Christmas is cut out cookies. My mom has a recipe that calls for powdered sugar instead of regular sugar and uses almond flavoring and they are soft and good. I borrowed an icing recipe from a friend that comes out good every time. In fact, I made some with my son tonight!

My favorite holiday food was my grandma's scalloped corn. My family is not fond of it, so we rarely have it. Or family food tradition which we started several years ago is that we have only snack type foods on Christmas Eve which allows us time to relax with friends who stop by and then go to church without having to worry about a lot of cooking and cleaning up. Our yummies consist of several of the following: cheese and crackers, veggies and dip, pigs in a blanket, rotel, meatballs w/sauce, quiche, and several sweets. When the children were at home, we usually had some of their friends stop by and there was always plenty of food to share. Then on Christmas day, we have a traditional Christmas dinner: turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, sweet potatoes w/marshmallows, watergate salad, green bean casserole, pickles, olives, cranberries, dinner rolls, pumpkin bread and pumpkin pie. Sometimes, we had a small ham. Of course, there is lots of leftovers so all my children get to take some goodies home with them for snacking and usually dinner on the 26th.

We never really had a food tradition. Sometimes we'll have a dinner with turkey and such.. next Christmas it will just be a plain meal. I guess it's whatever we're in the mood for. I do love baking the cookie cutter cookies and decorating them, but I dont get to make them as much since hubby was diagnosed with diabeties. He was gone overseas with the army on and off over the years or he's been working(like this Christmas) so we dont really have a set time or day to have a dinner together.

Christmas Eve was all about eggnogg and finger food! Christmas morning featured homemade apple fritters and it was the only time of the year my mom made them. Christmas Day pretty much was 'anything goes' - I think we occasionally did turkey dinners, but as we are football people and usually planted in front of the tv, most often it was sandwiches and chips. The biggest treat was home-made chex party mix, which still beats the bag stuff hands-down.

Glad to have found here - will try to make the January crop if I can get a babysitter!

I love cooking with my husband who is a very good cook and his family is from Trinidad & Tobago So we are adding new recipes to our traditional Christmas dinner YUMMO!

I love frosted sugar cookies, especially frosted sugar cookies that someone else has made! I just have no patience to do them myself. We are usually at a Grandma's house for Christmas who are both wonderful cooks. One Grandma has a special eggnog recipe, the other has special christmas morning brunch recipes.
