The countdown continues....

First of all, congrats to Sara!! You are the winner from yesterday!! Hope you enjoy your fun ribbons that you've won!!

I also hope you all are enjoying reading and getting to know each other a bit through this Christmas countdown! I love hearing all the fun stories and can't wait to see who all post each day! Thanks for playing along. Remember, all you have to do is post on the blog and you can win!! We draw one persons name each day (Emma, my daughter is having a blast doing that) and the lucky winner will get a goody mailed to them just after Christmas. It's that easy!!

So since we talked about whether we were shakers, peekers or can't find out types let's share our favorite Christmas gift ever received. We all know that the greatest gift is Jesus and that's the reason we even have Christmas but let's talk about the material gifts now. What gift meant the most, surprised you the most, touched you the most? Was it something you asked for? Something totally out of the blue? Who gave you the gift and why did it mean so much?

I think mine would have to be the little lifesaver candy books that my grandma gave each of us for Christmas. She couldn't afford much but made sure we had those candy books every year. Now growing up it didn't mean so much and wasn't even very exciting but looking back and now that she's gone, that is something I treasure and every time I see one of those I think of Grandma.

Let's hear about your gifts...... we'll be drawing tomorrow so be sure to post by 5:00 pm Wed. to be entered into the drawing for today's gift!!

My most memorable and favorite gift I ever received on Christmas was from an aunt when I was about 7 or 8. It was a caveman playset with plastic caves, fake trees, little cavemen & dinosaurs. Odd thing for a girl to love but I had a blast playing with it for the longest time, till it just disappeared one day. Dont know if parents threw it away or what. I've never seen one like it since.

I don't know if I can name a favorite present, but I saw one of those cans of tootsie rolls that are banks at Wal-mart the other day and I remembered getting those. Each time I got one, I thought that was the best present ever! I also loved when packages had miniature candy canes taped to them. I have received many purses over the years and they rank up at the top of favorite presents.

Over my many years, I have received many wonderful gifts from my family, but what comes quickly to mind is a barbie doll from 1959. In conversation about 10 years ago with my family about gifts and growing up, I mentioned that I never had a barbie when I was a little girl. So my wonderful husband (unbeknowst to me), did some research to find out what barbie would have been out there in the year 1959 (when I was 5 and might have received my first Barbie), found one, bought and wrapped it, and gave it to me for Christmas that next year. When I first unwrapped it, I thought I had mistakenly received a gift meant for my daughter. However, seeing that it was an older version of the doll and reading the box with information about the doll and the year 1959 on it, I realized it was meant for me. I was overwhelmed with love and, of coursed, cried! I still have my first Barbie and she sits on a shelf in our computer room. It is not really the doll that means a lot, but the fact that my husband (1) remembered me telling the story, (2) believing that every girl should have a Barbie doll, and (3) loving me so much that he researched and found the perfect gift. I am truly blessed.

Merry Christmas

Carol Says The best present I ever received was whenI was 10 or 11 & my Grandma took me to downtown Chicago to see the store windows. They all had displays that moved & were very elaborate. Then we had lunch at Marshall Fields dept store over looking the huge Christmas tree that was several stories High. We rode the train into town & my grandma s health was not the best so I really enjoyed seeing the store windows.

Hubby can surprise me pretty well on different occasions, but the first thing I thought of was the year I received my "Nancy" doll. I was 7 or 8. She was gorgeous and she came with a story about being named Nancy. Still have her to this day!!

My most memorable gift was a life-sized doll that looked like me and was hand made by my mom. I think I was about 10.

Gosh - that's a tough one. I'm not sure I can name one either. But these days my favorite gifts would have to be scrapbook and/or papercraft-related, of course!!!

My Grandparents make these intricate wooden ornaments. Grandpa cuts them out and Grandma usually paints them. Each grandchild gets a new ornament every year. Those ornaments are my favorite gifts. I will always have them as a special reminder of my grandparents.

My mom also gets me chocolate covered cherries and a life saver book every year. It isn't much but I can always count on getting them every year. It is a lot of fun!

The best gift I ever got was a photograph. May seem simple, but my husband and son put everything into it that they could.

When our son was about 2 1/2 years old, he tried to copy everything my husband did. So naturally, when Daddy worked on electronics at his bench, Danny was right beside him. My husband had an old VCR and let Danny use whatever tools he wanted to pretend fixing it. I had captured that moment on film. Dave knew that was my very favorite photo.

It's been 15 years since that shot, we've moved, and disposed of much of the old electronics, but they set up a secret photo shoot of the 2 of them, to duplicate that favorite photo.

I burst into tears when I got it because I knew how much they went through to do that for me. It was just the perfect gift to me - I'll always treasure it.

My favorite Gift was when I was living out of town for the first time and had never lived away from my family my sister Crystal came to Cincinnati and spent a few days with me before Christmas , when I opened my present at first I thought it was A plain quilt but as I unfolded it she had copied my friends and favorite family pictures on to fabric and had hand made me a Quilt Of course I cried !
Crystal is not a seamstress at all but she done such a perfect job on the Quilt I can only imagine how long it took her to make it . So when I got so home sick I thought I would never make it I would roll up in the quilt and watch T.V and reminisce about all the photos she had added to the Quilt .

I remember those Lifesaver books, too! It was my grandpa that used to give them to me and my brother; he would hide them in one of the drawers of his dresser.

The best Christmas gift I've ever received came just a few short weeks ago. The birth of my son is the best gift I've ever received.

The gift I remember being the most surprised about was a charm bracelet I got from Santa. I couldn't believe that Santa knew I wanted it since I had only told my parents.
